We clear up common misconceptions about CCSTOYS diecast action figures, comparing them to Bandai Metal Builds and explaining what their diecast material really means for collectors.
Quick answer
CCSTOYS diecast action figures are not low-cost alternatives—they are premium, diecast-metal collectibles with a distinct weight and durability, designed for serious mecha fans. Let's separate the myths from the facts.
Myth: CCSTOYS figures are just cheap plastic
A common assumption is that CCSTOYS figures are made of standard plastic, like many action figures. In reality, the Mortal Mind Series uses diecast construction—a metal alloy that gives the figure a solid, premium weight and feel. This is a deliberate choice for durability and a high-end display presence, not a cost-cutting measure.
Myth: They are the same as Bandai Metal Builds
While both use diecast materials, CCSTOYS and Bandai Metal Builds are different products from different manufacturers. CCSTOYS focuses on specific mecha designs like Gurren Lagann and Super Robot Wars OG, while Bandai covers a wider range of franchises. The comparison is about design and licensing, not quality tiers.
Myth: Diecast means fragile and easily broken
Diecast metal is actually more durable than plastic for static display figures. It resists warping and cracking over time. The trade-off is weight—these figures are heavier, so they need a sturdy shelf or display stand. They are not intended for rough play.
Verdicts on common claims
- Claim: CCSTOYS figures are overpriced: At a catalog price of USD 215.97 for the Gurren Lagann figure (compared to USD 313.00), the price reflects the diecast material and licensing. It is not overpriced for a premium diecast collectible.
- Claim: They are hard to pose: The diecast construction is designed for dynamic posing, not static standing. The weight may limit extreme poses without a stand, but it holds positions well once set.
- Claim: Only for hardcore fans: While the designs are niche (Gurren Lagann, Super Robot Wars, Evangelion), the build quality appeals to any collector who values metal figures over plastic. It is not exclusive to superfans. If you appreciate diecast metal figures, CCSTOYS is worth considering regardless of your fandom depth.
